Now What?

The NLCS is two games in, and the Philly’s have a matching amount of wins. Coming into the post season the Dodgers looked great. Than they swept the Cubs and stuned everyone. Going into the NLCS, most thought that they would keep it close, or maybe sweep the Phily’s. Well two games into it the dodgers have not won a game and have been out scored 11-8. The Phily’s big stars are not the ones puting up the points though, its there small neverheard of players. Philly’s pitcher Myers isnt unheard of, its just hes not known for batting. But yesterday he was on fire, hitting 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. They Phily’s wer not led by Ryan Howard ( Struck out Twice) or Chase Utley (Four Walks) yesterday, it was the bottom of the lineup that took care of the game.  So if you are asking “Now What Do The Dodgers Do”, well, the top of the lineup and all the big stars on the team arent doing damage. Work on the bottom of the lineup. The Dodgers Problem was they were working to hard to shut down Utley and Howard they forgot the rest of the team.

The dodgers are lucky that the NLCS is a 7 game series insead of a 5 game series like the NLDS. They now will have a one day break than three straight home games to take the lead. And if they lose a home game they will still have a chance. If the Dodgers take a 3-2 lead, its not all easy yet. The last two games are both in Philladelphia. Well, I picked the Dodgers in this series and i hope Manny gets to thirty homers in this series. They really need it.

After 4 top 10 teams and 9 top 25 teams going down including #1 ranked USC, the remaining winners are all getting ready to move up in the rankings. And for teams like Virginia Tech, this a good oppirtunnity to get ranked. Lets go team by team through the top 10

1. USC- lost to Oregon St. 27-21

Being down 21-0 at the half, the Trojans knew this would be a hard game. They wer able to cut the lead down to 7 in the third, but the Beavers made two field goals in the fourth to seal up the game.

2. Oklahoma Beat # 24 TCU 35-10

After beating #24 TCU, the Sooners could easilly take the #1 spot after todays voting. This game was over in the first when the Sooners got 21 points on the board.

3. Georgia lost to #8 Auburn

Georgia started the season up at the #1 spot. After  one week they were already at #2. Then after one week became #2. Then Oklahoma had a break through sending them down to #3. All that time they were undeafeted. Now they Acually lose a game, say good by to the top 10 Georgia.

4. Florida lost to Ole Miss 31-30

Isnt it funny how things just happen that stop a team from coming back. For instance, I was watching NFL one day. Tampa Bay was Playing New Orleans. Tampa was down by 5 but about to score with under minute left. And Brian Grisie just happens to through his first pick as a Buc on that play. Ok, back to this game. Its funny how the Florida O-line looked so good until the most important  play of the game. I mean, Ole Miss litterally jumped right over them to block the PAT. Im just wondering.

5. LSU beat Miss. St. 34-24

With the win LSU becomes a canidate for the #1 spot after USC lost on Thursday. Personillly I think that it should go to Oklahoma, but im not in the AP. I think Mississippi State did a pretty good job keeping it close against the Tigers. There was never a time that it was obvious who would win.

7. Texas beats Arkansas 52-10

Im somewhat of an Arkansas fan so i really dont want to talk about the game. Oh whatever, I admitt, Colt McCoy is who iwant for the Heisman winner after this game. Enough Said!

8. Auburn beat Georgia 41-30

See #3

9.Wisconcin lost to Michigan 27-25

YEAH BOY, GO BLUE. Sorry,  Well this is what happens when  your  favorite team acually beats a qualitty team this season. Michigan must of got a good speech in the locker room at halftime. They came back from a 19-0 halftime deposit. Michigan pretty much won the game in the 4th scoring 20 points, with all of the top 25 losses, they might take a #25 spot.

Ther you go, a round of the horriblle top 10 in the country.

Patriots win, but Brady’s injury overshadows game

•September 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Tom Brady screamed. The fans went quiet. The seemingly indestructible star of the New England Patriots lay on the ground, clutching his left knee. The NFL’s reigning MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion was done for the day — at least.

“He was in a lot of pain. When you hear a scream, you know that,” Kansas City safety Bernard Pollard said after hitting Brady on the left leg midway through the first quarter.

Untested Matt Cassel took over, and played well as the Patriots beat the Chiefs 17-10 in Sunday’s opener. But they needed a last minute defensive stand to do it.

There was no word on the extent of Brady’s injury — “I am not sure what we are dealing with,” coach Bill Belichick said — or how long he would be out. But his 128-game starting streak, third-longest in NFL history, is in jeopardy.

Various reports Sunday night said Belichick told the players that the injury was serious. The Patriots were already looking for a possible replacement for Brady. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that former Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms was coming in Monday for a physical.

“It kind of looked bad,” Randy Moss said. “I know the show must go on and, hopefully, Matt Cassel is ready to step in.”

He was Sunday. That came as somewhat of a surprise after he failed to produce a touchdown in 17 exhibition series, leading many to wonder if he would even make the team on which he backed up Brady the past three seasons.

“He did a good job coming in and, obviously, made some big plays for us,” tackle Matt Light said. “That guy’s had a lot of criticism cast down on him and I felt like he stepped up and played like a professional.”

Still, the Patriots plummeted from an exclamation point of an unbeaten 2007 regular season to a huge question mark in 2008. They lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants 17-14 then went 0-4 in the exhibition season while Brady had a right foot injury and missed all four games.

But for the first time in 57 games, Brady wasn’t listed on the Patriots’ injury report for Sunday’s game. He completed seven of 11 passes for 76 yards.

Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his first three seasons, went 13-for-18 for 152 yards and one touchdown.

“This is something I’ve been preparing for [for] a long time. It’s not something that we expected to come up on opening day,” he said. “Since I’ve been here and been around Tom, he’s always popped back up.”

Kansas City vs. New England Highlights

NFL.com Video

Despite and injured Tom Brady, Matt Cassel and the Patriots defeat the Chiefs 17-10.

Not this time. And Kansas City also had its own quarterback woes.

Damon Huard, playing after Brodie Croyle left with a bruised shoulder late in the third quarter, completed a 68-yard pass to Devard Darling, who cornerback Deltha O’Neal ran down and tackled at the Patriots 5 with 53 seconds left.

“It was a gut check. Go get him,” said O’Neal, a two-time Pro Bowler who signed early last week. “That’s what my whole mentality was.”

The Chiefs moved no further with two incompletions, a run for no gain by Larry Johnson and a poorly aimed pass toward Dwayne Bowe.

“Matt played well,” Huard said. “At the end of the day, it’s how quarterbacks are measured.”

But, Chiefs cornerback Patrick Surtain said, “Brady is Brady. There’s only one of him.”

Last season, Brady set an NFL record with 50 touchdown passes, but it ended in disappointment with the Super Bowl loss.

They stayed calm without him Sunday.

“Worry about the consequences later,” linebacker Tedy Bruschi said. “Whoever’s in there, do your job.”

With the game scoreless, Brady was hurt when Pollard hit him low as he heaved a 28-yard completion to Moss. But Moss fumbled the ball away.

Cassel was impressive on his first possession, starting at his 2. With a third down at the 1, he threw a 51-yard completion to Moss.

“We had them deep into their territory,” defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey said, “but they made a good play.”

Eight plays later, Cassel and Moss hooked up for a 10-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

It was Moss’ 126th touchdown, tying Jim Brown for eighth most overall, and 125th on a reception, tying him for fourth in NFL history.

The Chiefs cut the lead to 7-3 on a 40-yard field goal by Nick Novak with 17 seconds left in the half.

Cassel led another impressive drive, covering 80 yards in which he completed all four passes. Sammy Morris ended it with a 5-yard scoring run for a 14-3 lead.

The injury marred the Patriots season opener for the second straight year.

They won 38-14 at the Jets in last year’s first game, then were punished by the NFL after an employee was caught filming the Jets’ defensive signals. Belichick was fined $500,000; the team was fined $250,000, and the Patriots also lost a first-round draft choice.

“For Week 1, you never know what to expect,” Light said, “and this was one of those weeks.”

Game notes
A new banner hung from under the third deck marking their 16-0 regular-season record last year. … Croyle, now 0-7 as a starter, went 11-for-19 for 88 yards. … The Patriots improved their NFL best regular-season winning streak to 20 games.

Panthers win after last second touch-down

•September 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

4th and goal. The Panthers have the ball at the 14 down 24-19. Seconds to play, Jake Dellhome throws a touch-down pass as time expires to win 26-24.

Delhomme came back from an elbow injury with the kind of impact the San Diego Chargers(0-1) won’t soon forget, throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tight End Dante Rosario as time expired to lift the underdog Carolina Panthers(1-0) to a shocking 26-24 win Sunday.

“I started to run to go jump on him, and I’m just kind of in awe,” Delhomme said. “Then you hear the ref blowing the whistle, so I’m like, ‘Oh, did something happen?’ But it was for the PAT. … It was just elation.”

Coming into the game most would think that if a TE caught a game winner, than it would be Rivers to Gates. But it was Dellhome to Rosario.

San Dieago was down 19-10 at one point in the fourth, but came back with two touch passes by Philip Rivers. Putting them up 24-19 with just over two minutes to play.

The winning play is known as 74 Rocket — as in, “rocket, let’s go,” Delhomme explained. Five receivers flooded into the end zone. Wanting to move a safety and hit a receiver on a seam, Delhomme pump-faked, then stepped up in the pocket.

On that final play Chargers inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm got a hand on the ball “and it just tipped right back into my hand,” Rosario said.

Game Notes

• San Diego QB Philip Rivers lost for just the second time as a starter at home in 17 career games.

• The Panthers improved to 4-3 in season openers under John Fox, 2-0 in the last two openers, both of which were on the road.

• Sunday marked the first time Chargers head coach Norv Turner has lost to the Panthers.

Top 3 Games of the Day

•September 6, 2008 • Leave a Comment

3.  Michigan v.s Miami (OH)

After losing there first two games of the season last year, and losing against Utah last week. The Wolverines are hoping to pull off the win. This week the have yet another non-BCS school.  The RedHawks are also 0-1 with a loss last week. A Michigan loss will be a big hit, losing to another non-BCS school.

The Redhawks have an awesome passing game that is ranked 27 in the country. Miami Ohio is ranked above Michigan in all of the main offensive components, exept poins per game.

2. 24.Illinois v.s Eastren Illinois

After losing to Missouri last week,  the #24 ranked Fighting Illini are trying to rebound today by beating in state rival Eastren Illinois. The  Panthers were crushed 31-12 last week, and are also trying to rebound. as you proboblly know, Illinois has a big edge.

1. 8.West Virginia v.s Eastren Carolina

After last weeks upset over the Hokies, ECU has another ranked team on there schedule. West Virginia had a big win last week. Some are saying that the Pirates will pull it off again, but i personlly think that the Mountaners will hold on.

Those are my top three games of the week.

Sanchez and Co. Dominate Saber

•August 31, 2008 • 1 Comment

It was only three weeks ago when Southren Cal. quarter back Mark Sanchez dislocated his knee cap. Well if you didnt know that and you saw the game yesterday, you probablly dont belive me.

Yesterday Sanchez got his first start as a true starting QB. The seinior waited 4 years for this day. And he proved he desirved it. Sanchez threw 3 td passes to three diferent recivers. He was also 26-for-35 and got 338 yards to lead USC to a 52-7 victory. Sanchez showed no favorite reciver, hiting 8 of them.

It was a quick game for the Trojans who scored three touch downs on there first three drives.  After that we had a clear winer. The Trojans have the Ohio State Buckeyes next on there schedule, luckilly they get a bye before that.

“It’s exciting to know I got one under my belt with this whole knee deal,” Sanchez  said. “I’m back to 100 percent. I feel good and we’re ready to start preparing for Ohio State.”

The Hoo’s got a break with a 7 yard Mikell Simpson touch down in the first. quarter. That was he only break they got. The second was the Hoo’s best quarter, holding the Trojans to just a field-goal.

“The only way to bounce back from a game like this is to take it as a learning experience,” tailback Cedric Peerman said. “We will have a lot of work to do in practice.”

Yes they do have to do alot in practice.

The play of the game came on a 49 yard touch-down pass from Sanchez to Ronald Johnson.

“Their speed was pretty unbelievable the whole game,”  said Virginia QB Peter Lalich. “It’s something they have across the board, at every position, and they really were able to use it to their advantage.”

Game Notes

•  USC has won 11 straight season openers and nine straight non-conference road games.

• In USC’s first visit to the state of Virginia, Mark Sanchez threw for a career-high 338 yards and three TDs.

• All seven USC touchdowns were scored by different players.
